Scooby-Doo! Nostalgia Contest
|
|
With the September 22 release of Scooby-Doo! First Frights readily approaching, Nintendo World Report is teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to deliver a contest that will make you say "Zoinks, Scoob!"
All you have to do to enter is write a short piece detailing a nostalgic memory about Scooby and the rest of Mystery Inc. However, we encourage you to use your imagination and include as many Scooby-Doo references as possible. For example, you could write an entirely factual entry about how you and your siblings watched Scooby-Doo all the time as kids, and then end it with you unmasking a random ghoul who just so happens to be Old Man Weathers. Or you could make a fictional story about how you and Scooby-Doo met Batman and Abbot and Costello. It's all up to you!
While you won't be judged, there will be prizes, and we will post all of the entries for everyone's enjoyment (as long as they're appropriate). Five lucky entrants will win a copy of Scooby-Doo! First Frights for Wii.
Send your stories to contest@nintendoworldreport.com with the subject "Scooby-Doo! Contest" and show your work to the world. Maybe you'll win a prize!
All entries must be in by September 20 at midnight EST. Winners will be announced shortly after.

Boomerang to Run "Scooby-Doo" 40th Birthday Marathon Sept 5-6, 2009
|
|
When Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? premiered on broadcast television (CBS) Saturday morning, Sept. 13, 1969, television audiences took their first journey on what would become literally hundreds of mystery-solving comedy capers featuring a teenage gang of amateur detectives and their cowardly, yet beloved great Dane. Today, having recruited generations of fans young and old across the globe, Scooby-Doo will celebrate his milestone 40th birthday over Labor Day Weekend on the commercial-free Boomerang network with two seven-hour marathons, 2-9 p.m. (ET), Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6.
To commemorate the special event, Scooby and the gang-Freddy, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy-on Saturday will solve 17 classic supernatural mysteries, including their very first from the original premiere episode, "What a Night for a Knight." Then on Sunday, Boomerang will devote another seven-hour marathon, 2-9 p.m., to showcase The New Scooby-Doo Movies, the second series in the Scooby-Doo canon and the only series to feature hour-long episodes. The hallmark of this series is its animated celebrity guests, and during the special presentation, Scooby and the gang meet the casts of other great Hanna-Barbera cartoons such as Josie and the Pussycats and the Harlem Globetrotters.
"Scooby-Doo is a timeless character whose humor, chronic cowardice and insatiable appetite appeal to the 'kid' inside all of us," said Stacy Isenhower, senior vice president of programming and scheduling for Boomerang and Cartoon Network. "These marathons are excellent family viewing, providing nostalgia for adults while still funny and fresh for young ones today."

Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins
|
|
Premieres 7 p.m. (EST) Sept. 13 on Cartoon Network
The ghost-hunting Great Dane and his friends are back in another movie combining a new live-action cast with a computer-generated Scooby. No Freddie Prinze Jr., no Sarah Michelle Gellar, etc. But the new cast of young actors playing Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy is quite good. (Nick Palatas as Shaggy and Hayley Kiyoko as Velma fit their characters to a tee. But longtime fans will wonder what happened to Fred’s ascot.) Hard to believe, but it has been 40 years since the Sept. 13, 1969, debut of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! as a Saturday-morning staple. This movie shows how "those meddling kids and their dog" met, became friends and got into the mystery-solving game.

SCOOBY-DOO! THE MYSTERY BEGINS SET FOR SEPTEMBER 13
|
|
For the first time in history, the never-before-told story of how the Mystery Inc. gang first joined forces will be revealed in Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins. A co-production of Warner Premiere and Cartoon Network, Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins combines adventurous storytelling, stylized CGI visuals and a new, young live-action cast to bring the origin story of Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo to life. The two-hour movie will make its television debut on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. (ET, PT) during Cartoon Network Flicks, a destination for movies.
In Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, Coolsville High is plagued by a suspicious haunting, and everyone is accusing Fred, Velma, Daphne and Shaggy of playing a spooky prank. Suddenly, the school athlete, the science fair-winning brainiac, the drama beauty and the school misfit must band together to clear their names. With Shaggy's newly adopted dog Scooby-Doo tagging along, the mismatched quartet soon discovers they have more in common than they originally thought.
The live-action cast features Robbie Amell (Life With Derek, True Jackson) as Fred, along with Kate Melton as Daphne, Hayley Kiyoko as Velma and Nick Palatas as Shaggy. Frank Welker, a member of the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! voice-cast, provides the voice of Scooby-Doo. Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins is directed by Brian Levant (Snow Dogs, The Flintstones), produced by Brian Gilbert (Wrong Turn) and written by Daniel and Steven Altiere (Dr. Dolittle: A Tinsel Town Tail, Gym Teacher: The Movie). Warner Home Video will release Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins on DVD and Blu-Ray Hi-Def Combo Pack on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The world's most famous Great Dane first appeared on television screens on Sept. 13, 1969. Over the past four decades, the Scooby-Doo characters have spawned 10 television series (spanning some 300 episodes), seven TV specials/telefilms, three live-action films and 12 made-for-video animated films. Scooby-Doo the animated series is the longest continually running cartoon series in television history, and, coincidentally, one of the longest-running mystery series in television history.
Cartoon Network (CartoonNetwork.com), currently seen in more than 97 million U.S. homes and 166 countries around the world, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.'s ad-supported cable service now available in HD offering the best in original, acquired and classic animated entertainment for kids and families. Nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (ET, PT), Cartoon Network shares its channel space with Adult Swim, a late-night destination showcasing original and acquired animation for young adults 18-34.
Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner company, creates and programs branded news, entertainment, animation and young adult media environments on television and other platforms for consumers around the world.
