Scooby Doo and the Spooky Swamp sneaks onto the Wii and DS
Zoinks! There's a new Scooby Doo game coming to the Wii and DS!

Scooby Doo and the Spooky Swamp follows the gang as they try to uncover the mystery behind a spooky swamp girl (funnily enough) and her strange brew. To help solve this mystery, it's up to you, to search the swamp - and other spooky locales, like an alpine village and a desert ghost town - to find clues, defeat enemies and solve puzzles.

For the first time in a Scooby Doo game, you can play as any of the Mystery Inc. crew - be it Daphne, Fred, Velma, Shaggy or even Scooby Doo himself (thankfully there's no Scrappy Doo). Collecting the Scooby Snacks hidden throughout the game work as a currency, letting you buy accessories and new outfits to personalise your favourite Scooby Doo characters.

And before you can say 'Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you?', you can have a friend jump in to help you search for clues, in the brand new drop-in/drop-out co-op, simply by pressing the plus button on the Wii Remote.

Well, gang, I guess this wraps up that mystery. Scooby Doo and the Spooky Swamp is due out later this month, but we're not exactly sure when. We'll be keeping an eye out for more clues, so don't forget to check back soon for more info.

Batman And Scooby-Doo... Together Again!
How can the best Batman TV show ever become even better? By bringing in Scooby-Doo to guest-star.

Yes, Cartoon Network's wonderful Batman: The Brave and The Bold - which, if you haven't seen it and like smiling, is highly recommended - has confirmed that the Mystery Machine's most famous passenger will be re-teaming with the Dark Knight as part if an upcoming episode entitled "Bat-Mite Presents: Batman's Strangest Cases!," alongside an unnamed guest-star playing themselves, a la old episodes of Scooby Doo.

The Batman/Scooby team isn't anything new; Batman guest-starred in more than one episode of the 1970s series The New Scooby Doo Movies, alongside Robin and villains like the Joker and the Penguin, demonstrating the early power of corporate synergy to a still-innocent generation of children.

Although the characters haven't crossed paths much in the last thirty years, there's no better place for this reunion than Brave and the Bold, especially a Bat-Mite episode. After all, the last Bat-Mite episode proved that the show had no problem going to areas other Batman shows may fear to tread...

The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo the complete series coming to DVD on June 29!
As every fan of the cartoon Great Dane know, there have been many different shows over the years featuring Scooby-Doo and his friends. In 1985, ABC scared up our Saturday mornings with The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, which charged our heroes with hunting down "thirteen of the most terrifying ghosts and ghouls on the face of the Earth". Freddie and Velma weren't in on the hunt, but the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang were joined by a new pair of characters. One was "Vincent Van Ghoul", who was a caricature of legendary horror film star Vincent Price. And Price himself joined the voice cast to play this part, too, along with Susan Blu ("Arcee" of Transformers: The Movie) who voiced the other new character, "Flim Flam".

Today we learned that Warner Home Video is releasing The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo - The Complete Series on DVD this coming June 29th. This 2-disc set (286 minutes) includes all 13 episodes, available on DVD for the first time ever. A bonus cartoon is included, an episode of the "modern" incarnation of the show, Shaggy & Scooby Get a Clue. Video is full frame, audio is in English, and there are English subtitles as well. The cost is just $19.98 SRP.

Mystery Inc. Returns in Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster
Warner Premiere is in production on Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster, an all-new, live-action/CG movie follow-up to 2009's record-setting Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, it was announced today by Eva Davis, EVP and General Manager, Warner Premiere. The film commences principal photography on March 15 in various locations around Southern California. The family-targeted feature will premiere on Cartoon Network in fall 2010 and release on DVD through Warner Home Video in early 2011.

Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster continues the Mystery Inc. gang's adventures from the 2009 hit Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, which premiered as the most-watched telecast in Cartoon Network history, and set targeted demographic records across the board. This new film will once again feature the familiar cast of characters in their high school years as they continue to develop and sharpen their combined sleuthing skills.

"After more than 40 years, the Scooby-Doo franchise continues to grow stronger as generations of audiences embrace these timeless characters, and that adoration has been clearly reflected in box office, DVD sales and television ratings," said Davis.. "These new live-action films, with their contemporary approach, bring excitement and thrills to an altogether new era of Scooby-Doo fans."

Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster finds the Mystery Inc. gang heading toward summer jobs at a country club owned by Daphne's uncle, only to stumble onto strange happenings around the local lake - including mystical moonstones, creepy characters and a Frog Monster on the loose. There's mystery afoot and romance in the air that only the fearful foursome-plus-one - Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo - can solve in this Warner Premiere production. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will distribute the film on Blu-ray, DVD, On Demand and For Download.

Director Brian Levant, producer Brian Gilbert and writers the Altiere Brothers return from their successful turns at the creative helm of Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins. The Atlas Entertainment production also has the live action cast returning intact with Robbie Amell (True Jackson, VP) as Fred, Kate Melton as Daphne, Hayley Kiyoko as Velma and Nick Palatas as Shaggy. Scooby-Doo will appear via computer-generated animation courtesy of Animation Picture Company.

In conjunction with the start of film production, the Scooby-Doo Mystery Movie Sweepstakes launches March 12, 2010 with a Grand Prize package that includes a trip for four to the set of Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster during filming. Fans can go to to enter.

An animated creation from the legendary Hanna-Barbera studios, Scooby-Doo celebrated his 40th anniversary in 2009 and represents one of the longest running, most beloved franchises in cartoon history.

Scooby Doo, Tweety, and Batman Fork and Spoon Sets Recalled for Choking Hazard
A large recall of about 127,000 Scooby Doo, Tweety, and Batman Fork and Spoon Sets, which were manufactured by Peachtree Playthings of Atlanta, Georgia, has been announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The Scooby Doo, Tweety, and Batman Fork and Spoon Sets were recalled because the middle two prongs of the plastic fork can detach, posing a choking hazard to children. To date, Peachtree Playthings has received one report of a middle prong detaching from the fork. No injuries have been reported. This recall involves the Scooby Doo, Tweety, and Batman plastic fork and spoon sets. The two-piece set is white plastic with cartoon images on the handle and was sold at Dollar Tree Stores and Deals during January 2010 for about $1 per set.

Of note, the recalled Scooby Doo, Tweety, and Batman Fork and Spoon Sets were manufactured in China, a country long associated with products that have been found to be dangerous and linked to an increasing and significant string of recalls and consumer injuries.

The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately take the recalled Scooby Doo, Tweety, and Batman Fork and Spoon Sets away from children and return them to Dollar Tree or Deals for a full refund. For additional information, Peachtree Playthings can be reached toll-free at 1-800-290-4831 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday; at its Web site at www.peachtreeplaythings.com; or by email at peachtree@peachtreeplaythings.com.

Zoinks! 'Scooby-Doo' Actor Cuts off Thumb
Nick Palatas -- the straight-to-DVD "Scooby-Doo" actor -- just lopped off his thumb.

Nick's manager tells us the actor -- who plays Shaggy in the film -- was working with a table saw this afternoon in Northridge, CA when the saw struck a knot in the wood and suddenly jumped.

We're told the saw sliced off one-third to one-half of Nick's right thumb. Nick dialed 911. Yes.

While in the ambulance, Nick called his mother and asked her to go to his home and retrieve his thumb ... which she obligingly did.

Nick's mother just took the thumb to Northridge Hospital -- but the medical staff concluded it could not be reattached.

Nick is now waiting on a "top Hollywood plastic surgeon" to see if he'll ever get put back together again.

With the September 22 release of Scooby-Doo! First Frights readily approaching, Nintendo World Report is teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to deliver a contest that will make you say "Zoinks, Scoob!"

All you have to do to enter is write a short piece detailing a nostalgic memory about Scooby and the rest of Mystery Inc. However, we encourage you to use your imagination and include as many Scooby-Doo references as possible. Or you could make a fictional story about how you and Scooby-Doo met Batman and Abbot and Costello. It's all up to you!

While you won't be judged, there will be prizes, and we will post all of the entries for everyone's enjoyment (as long as they're appropriate). Five lucky entrants will win a copy of Scooby-Doo! First Frights for Wii.

Boomerang to Run "Scooby-Doo" 40th Birthday Marathon Sept 5-6, 2009
When Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? premiered on broadcast television (CBS) Saturday morning, Sept. 13, 1969, television audiences took their first journey on what would become literally hundreds of mystery-solving comedy capers featuring a teenage gang of amateur detectives and their cowardly, yet beloved great Dane. Today, having recruited generations of fans young and old across the globe, Scooby-Doo will celebrate his milestone 40th birthday over Labor Day Weekend on the commercial-free Boomerang network with two seven-hour marathons, 2-9 p.m. (ET), Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6.

To commemorate the special event, Scooby and the gang-Freddy, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy-on Saturday will solve 17 classic supernatural mysteries, including their very first from the original premiere episode, "What a Night for a Knight." Then on Sunday, Boomerang will devote another seven-hour marathon, 2-9 p.m., to showcase The New Scooby-Doo Movies, the second series in the Scooby-Doo canon and the only series to feature hour-long episodes. The hallmark of this series is its animated celebrity guests, and during the special presentation, Scooby and the gang meet the casts of other great Hanna-Barbera cartoons such as Josie and the Pussycats and the Harlem Globetrotters.

"Scooby-Doo is a timeless character whose humor, chronic cowardice and insatiable appetite appeal to the 'kid' inside all of us," said Stacy Isenhower, senior vice president of programming and scheduling for Boomerang and Cartoon Network. "These marathons are excellent family viewing, providing nostalgia for adults while still funny and fresh for young ones today."

Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins
Premieres 7 p.m. (EST) Sept. 13 on Cartoon Network

The ghost-hunting Great Dane and his friends are back in another movie combining a new live-action cast with a computer-generated Scooby. No Freddie Prinze Jr., no Sarah Michelle Gellar, etc. But the new cast of young actors playing Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy is quite good. (Nick Palatas as Shaggy and Hayley Kiyoko as Velma fit their characters to a tee. But longtime fans will wonder what happened to Fred’s ascot.) Hard to believe, but it has been 40 years since the Sept. 13, 1969, debut of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! as a Saturday-morning staple. This movie shows how "those meddling kids and their dog" met, became friends and got into the mystery-solving game.

SCOOBY-DOO! THE MYSTERY BEGINS SET FOR SEPTEMBER 13
For the first time in history, the never-before-told story of how the Mystery Inc. gang first joined forces will be revealed in Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins. A co-production of Warner Premiere and Cartoon Network, Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins combines adventurous storytelling, stylized CGI visuals and a new, young live-action cast to bring the origin story of Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo to life. The two-hour movie will make its television debut on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. (ET, PT) during Cartoon Network Flicks, a destination for movies.

In Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, Coolsville High is plagued by a suspicious haunting, and everyone is accusing Fred, Velma, Daphne and Shaggy of playing a spooky prank. Suddenly, the school athlete, the science fair-winning brainiac, the drama beauty and the school misfit must band together to clear their names. With Shaggy's newly adopted dog Scooby-Doo tagging along, the mismatched quartet soon discovers they have more in common than they originally thought.

Warner Bros. Animation Celebration
Animation creators, celebrities and fans gathered to witness the unveiling of the brand new Warner Bros. Animation mural in Burbank, California. The event was open to the public and attended by over five hundred Burbank residents and Warner Bros. employees, along with their families. The mural, which faces the corner of Olive and Pass, has been a staple of the studio for over fifteen years but has never been updated until now. CBR News attended the event to get a first hand report on the festivities.

The event was held on the back-lot, underneath the mural itself. The scene resembled a carnival, with different booths set up for children including face painting and “Batman: The Brave & The Bold” character designer Lynell Forstall drawing pictures for the kids. The Batmobile from the Tim Burton Batman films was a centerpiece along with the Mystery Mobile from “Scooby Doo.” Beneath the mural, which was covered by a giant white sheet, stood a stage and podium where the presentation would take place, and where Peter Roth, President of Warner Bros. Television, welcomed the excited crowd.

Warner Bros. Studios has been producing animation for almost eighty years, beginning with 1930’s black and white short, “Sinkin’ in the Bath Tube.” Since then, the company has earned six Academy Awards, thirty-five Emmy Awards and one Peabody Award. WB’s animation division includes some of the most beloved characters in cartoon history, including the Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbara and DC Comics catalog of characters.

Roth spoke to the crowd about the importance of these characters and their representations on the mural. “Warner Bros. Animation and family of now classic Looney Tune, Hanna-Barbara and DC Comics characters have evolved to a cherished part of our culture here at Warner Bros., and the mural you are about to see represents the studio’s rich heritage and brings together the past and the present from Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman to Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny and Scooby Doo among many others.”

FOX Replaces Cartoons with Infomercials
Those used to waking up to Saturday-morning cartoons on FOX will be disappointed come the new year. With the network and 4Kids ending their programming agreement in late December, FOX will be filling two full hours with infomercials each Saturday morning. While this is common practice on many cable outlets, it's extremely rare for a major network, according to Daily Variety.

FOX and 4Kids are settling a legal issue pertaining to their long-running agreement, under which 4Kids bought $20 million worth of time on the network to broadcast such popular animated shows as The Spectacular Spider-Man, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get A Clue! and Tom and Jerry Tales, Chaotic and Viva Piñata. 4Kids also launched a block on The CW in October of 2007, and will continue to supply programming to the fairly new channel that rose from the ashes of The WB.

Dubbed “Weekend Marketplace” the block of long-form commercials will air from 10 a.m. to noon each Saturday on 95% of FOX affiliates. Those affiliates will also get two hours to program themselves with the absence of cartoons. Since the children’s TV market has fallen on hard times, FOX has no alternative for packaged entertainment programming, especially one that will pay what 4Kids has been. That arrangement reportedly fell apart when 4Kids insisted that it was owed a $13 million refund, which FOX refused to pay.

Boomerang's "Dog Days of Summer"
Cartoon Network's sister-network Boomerang, the home to many Hanna-Barbera animation as well as more recently produced cartoons that once called CN proper their abode, has announced their plan to pay tribute to the dogs of television animation throughout the month of July 2008. Promoted as the Boomerang network's "Dog Days of Summer" event, the extended cable channel is gearing up to feature one of the oodles of poodles that have graced the small screen each Saturday and Sunday afternoon, kicking off this coming Saturday, July 5th.

Boomerang is looking to highlight the exploits of top canines ranging from the indomitable Scooby-Doo (Scooby Doo Where Are You?), to the rather evil Muttley (Wacky Races), to the smooth-talking Huckleberry Hound (The Huckleberry Hound Show), to the more saccharine Dino (The Flintstones). "We've always believed our dog stars deserved a day in the sun," Rico Hill, Vice President of Programming and Scheduling for Boomerang and Cartoon Network, recently commented. "Mid-summer in the heat of July seemed the perfect time to take these boys 'out for a walk' so to speak so that their many fans could enjoy them."

Each of the spotlights on these memorable mutts will air form 4:00pm through to 5:30pm (ET) on Saturdays and Sundays of July. The "Dog Days of Summer" at Boomerang will include the schedule as follows:

Saturday, July 5th: Scooby-Doo
A cowardly great Dane, Scooby-Doo, and his four teenage partners-Freddy, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy-tour the country in their "Mystery Machine" van in search of the supernatural. Episodes of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? to include "Don't Go Near the Fortress of Fear," "The Beast is Awake in Bottomless Lake" and "The Warlock of Wimbledon."

Sunday, July 6th: Scrappy-Doo
The mystery-solving great Dane, Scooby-Doo, and pals Fred, Shaggy, Daphne and Velma return to the trail of mystery, this time featuring a new addition-Scooby's overly zealous little nephew, Scrappy-Doo, who instigates all the trouble for the gang. Episodes of Scooby and Scrappy Doo to include "The Scarab Lives!," "Strange Encounters of A Scooby Kind" and "The Night Ghoul of Wonderworld."

Scooby Doo is back!
Brian Levant (“The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas”, “Are We There Yet?”) has signed to direct a new “Scooby Doo” film – a telemovie prequel to the two “Scooby Doo” films of previous years.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr will be sitting this one out. A nation-wide casting call is now underway to find the new Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy.

In this new pic, Daphne’s a mystery writer inspired by Murder She Wrote; Fred’s a football player with a penchant for jigsaw puzzles who decides to try out for the school paper, his idol is footballer turned supreme court justice Bryan ‘Whizzer’ White; Shaggy is as daft as ever and not doing so well at school; and Velma (who I hear might be Asian in the new film) is a teen U.S ambassador for World Hunger.

ssumingly, they all apply for jobs at the school paper – for different reasons – and end up solving their first mystery…. Whatever that may be.

If there’s one thing the “Scooby Doo” films got right is the cast: Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini, as Shaggy and Velma, respectively, were perfect. Here’s hoping Warners find themselves some satisfactory surrogates…

Production begins in August in Vancouver.

Cartoons of All Time
Cartoons are a part of every child's life; the medium of learning and entertainment for young people and that animated mini movie that satisfies your every desire. For some persons, as they grew older they lost interest in cartoons, while others just never got tired of them. They have found serenity in watching them, no matter how old they are. I am sure you can recall the name or an episode of your favourite cartoon.

This article was initially written to highlight a Top 10 listing of the overall best cartoons. However, when it was time to collect the nominations for the top 10, mayhem erupted. It became very difficult to list 10 all-time greatest cartoons. The list was 'stretched' to 15, then to 20, then to 25, then to 30.

Click here for a list of the Top cartoons of all time and see where Scooby falls on the list.

Happy Birthday, Frank Welker!
Today is Frank Welker's birthday, and I would like to wish him a very happy birthday! Without him, the world of cartoons would not be the same. He has added so much life into so many characters...from Curious George, to Fred, to Megatron.

Frank, I would like to wish you the happiest birthday ever! My family and I thank you for all of the work you have put into each project to bring us such amazing characters. We truly appreciate everything you have done to make the cartoon world a happier place. Have a great birthday!

No SpongeBob, Scooby Doo for children in China
The Chinese government has expanded its ban on foreign cartoons, such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Pokemon and Scooby Doo, and will not allow them to be shown during prime time hours.

The country's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) says it will be instituting new rules starting May 1, which will ban foreign cartoons from all domestic cartoon and children's channels between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

That expands a ban implemented last September, which lasted until 8 p.m. The new action will effectively erase foreign animation from Chinese primetime.

SARFT issued a statement on Wednesday saying its latest move "will create a favourable environment for the domestic cartoon industry."

Those in the industry fear SARFT may be slowly strangling foreign cartoon broadcasts.

Even cartoons produced in co-operation by domestic and foreign producers will have to get official approval to be shown in the "golden hours" slot.

SARFT released a report on Wednesday stating China made more than 101,900 minutes of animation last year, a 23 per cent jump over 2006. Officials say they are trying to stave off foreign competitors, especially Japanese cartoon makers.

Restrictions rising
Government authorities have spent the past few years tightening their grip on the film and television industries.

State-controlled television stations generally do not pick up Western shows. Last year, the government banned reality shows from prime time and urged broadcasters to show only "ethically inspiring" series.

Restrictions have been placed on TV talent shows as well as anything that touches upon horror, crime and the supernatural in film.

New rules have also been issued against overtly sexual content while material over the internet has been heavily censored.

Happy 50th Birthday LEGO
The balloons descended at 1:58 p.m. on January 28, 2008 at LEGO headquarters in Enfield, marking the small block's 50th birthday.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Dan Kain reported the company employs 5,000 worldwide, 350 of whom work in Enfield, including model builders.

"My wife is amazed, my relatives are amazed that I actually get paid to play all day for a job," said Dan Steininger, a model builder.

Steininger said it took him about 60 hours to build a replica Scooby Doo using LEGOs.

"We glue each and every piece before we put it on," Steininger said.

The company has evolved over the years, tying the basic block to a wide range of popular interests from Star Wars to Transformers.

The company even has theme parks built around the block -- two in Europe and one in California.

Kain reported LEGO has reported almost $1½ billion in sales.

"We always have and will always have a strong following: The parents that grew up on LEGO, the grandparents that grew up on LEGO, and that whole nostalgia has a huge importance," said Soren Torp Laursen, president of LEGO Americas. "We offer something that is very different in terms of a play experience to the typical toy out there."

Over the years, the company has turned out 400 billion LEGO blocks -- enough to stretch for 611 million miles.

The president of the company said he always wears shoes at work because it sure hurts to step on a LEGO block.

DirecTV, Scooby-Doo to the Rescue
Bound to a chair, a man is tormented by a bunch of teenagers and their dog. Who'll have your sympathies? DirecTV is betting you'll side with the kids and dog as you watch this new spot via Deutsch/LA. And it's probably right, even if parents in the viewing audience (regularly tormented by their own kids) might be inclined at first to side with the man in the chair.

In this case, the kids and dog are familiar animated characters from Scooby-Doo, a TV cartoon that has aired in various permutations for nearly 40 years. And when one of the kids literally unmasks the man, he turns out to be "the cable guy," i.e., a person consumers are conditioned to dislike, given their exasperating experience with cable companies.

Having revealed the man's true identity, one of the kids explains the situation: "Well, now that DirecTV has more of the best channels in HD, no wonder the cable guy tried to stop everyone from switching to DirecTV." Embracing his assigned role as bad guy, the man snarls, "And I could of got away with it if it wasn't for you meddling kids and your dog." Note that his use of the grammatically incorrect "if it wasn't," rather than "if it weren't," adds to his aura of uncouth villainy. A voiceover then urges viewers to "Hook up your new flat-screen to over 85 of the best HD channels," and concludes with an 800-phone number for DirecTV.

Viewers who grew up as fans of Scooby-Doo will appreciate the dose of nostalgia DirecTV has provided. What about those whose pop-culture literacy doesn't include the Scooby oeuvre? They'll be so grateful to hear the narrator's normal adult voice, after the grating cartoony voices, that they may take its sales pitch to heart as well.

Simple Plan
Simple Plan are aiming big. They may already have sold out shows in Mexico, Sao Paolo, Tokyo and Malaysia. And, yes, they may have already flogged seven million records worldwide, but they haven't finished yet. They now have little ol' blighty in their sights and they're coming to take over the UK in 2008. Following in Green Day and Blink 182's pop-punk footsteps, they're making a dash for the top of our charts and record collections. They've teamed up with Timbaland's buddy Danja to add some groove to their punk thudding and have a new album and single heading our way in February. We caught up with lead guitarist Jeff Stinco to chat about the band's new material and ask why they are obsessed with Scooby Doo. We also found out that Celine Dion isn't that bad after all.

The band have a strong connection with the Scooby Doo franchise. How did that come about?
"We were approached by the company that do all the Scooby Doo stuff and they asked us to do the theme, which was cool, because we were all fans of the show when we were younger. It led to us appearing in an episode of Scooby Doo, which was amazing. We got to be animated and do our own voices for an episode. It was a really cool achievement. Then for the movie we did an original track, shot a video and it was a good tie-in. It was a relationship that just grew with those people."

SCOOBY SNACK ATTACK
KID'S cartoon heroes such as Scooby-Doo were today branded villains for promoting unhealthy snacks.

Consumer watchdog Which? claim 10 top characters are being cynically used on the packaging of products high in salt, sugar and fat.

Their report reveals three-quarters of parents feel using cartoons like Spider-Man to promote sugary or salty snacks is "irresponsible".

Nine out of 10 parents also believe characters on packaging encourages children to demand that item.

Which? say: "Take two food items. One has plain packaging, the other is bursting with pictures of a well known character. Which will a child choose? It doesn't take a genius to know most will opt for the cartoon-festooned product."

Spidey was blasted for backing sugary Nesquik Chocolate Flavour Cereal, while Scooby-Doo Mini Pizza Breadsticks were found to be high in salt.

A Which? spokesman said: "The companies which own and use these characters need to review their policies."

Marvel, who own Spider- Man, said they did not have "a specific policy" on using their characters in food marketing.

Scooby-Doo owners Warner Bros said their characters were used "in a responsible manner".

Scooby-Doo and Gang Solve Hollywood Mystery
After a four-year hiatus, the Scooby-Doo Case File series returns to the PC with Scooby-Doo! Case File # 3: Frights! Camera! Mystery!

Wussy canine Scooby-Doo and his timid owner Shaggy are hilarious as they reluctantly confront a headless stuntman who is terrorizing a Hollywood movie set. However, the software game isn't as carefully constructed as the previous two titles in the series.

Kids join Scooby-Doo and Shaggy, along with their faithful friends Fred, Daphne and Velma, as they arrive in Hollywood to star in a movie. The owner of the movie studio is frantic because most of his employees have quit after being terrorized by a headless stuntman. The studio owner solicits the young detectives' help in solving the mystery of the headless stuntman.

Kids direct Scooby and the gang's search through different movie sets and buildings to find people to interview and to hunt for clues. At six locations, kids find games to play. When they win a game, they earn a clue. For example, at one point, the headless stuntman whisks Daphne away and places her in a cage dangling high up on a movie set. To rescue her, kids need to place ramps, loop-to-loops, and other props in six numbered locations on some scaffolding so that Scooby can ride a motorcycle through to reach Daphne. The activity allows kids to test their solution by having Scooby try the course. If they are wrong, Scooby crashes with cartoonish explosiveness, but is unhurt.

Other clue-providing games include one where Scooby tries to gather Scooby Snacks from seats in a theater while the headless stuntman chases him. Kids will also play a maze activity, a puzzle-type activity about putting together a Wild West stage set, a multilevel chase game where you have to run, jump and climb over rigging to avoid being caught, and a matching game where you listen to audio clips of the characters you have met.

To move the game forward, you have to find missing movie reels. These reels are difficult to spot and kids may spend a lot of time just cruising through the movie studio — over and over again. Remind your kids to push the up arrow because some of the reels are only visible when you scroll up, not an obvious choice.

Another annoyance is that even on the easiest of the three levels, some of the games can be quite challenging for the intended audience. The controls in the maze game are so sensitive that you frequently run into a wall and end up stalled. Likewise, in the chase game, the headless stuntman is quite fast and may catch you the first several times you play. Since you have to win the game to earn the clue, kids will need perseverance.

A positive feature of this game is that you can play it several times with a different result. The game has multiple endings and clues, so replayability is high. It does an excellent job of teaching children how to use a chart to determine which clues apply to which suspects. Also, kids can earn printables to play with away from the computer.

Overall, this game isn't as polished as the previous installments, but, if your kids like Scooby-Doo, they will probably enjoy solving this mystery with him.

Schwartz to leave WB Animation
Sander Schwartz is ankling his post as Warner Bros. Animation prexy after six years with the studio.

Schwartz will segue to a production pact with the studio. He'll focus on developing a range of animated projects for broadband and new-media outlets as part of the Warner Bros. TV Group's big push into original programming for the Net. Warners has yet to name a successor for Schwartz, a search is under way and is expected to take a few months.

Warner Bros. Television Group prexy Bruce Rosenblum confirmed Schwartz's exit Thursday. He praised the veteran kidvid exec for leading Warner Bros. Animation "through a transitional, tough period in the TV animation business with great success."

Schwartz oversaw Warner Bros.' animation production for the small screen and direct-to-video titles and worked with Warner Bros. Pictures brass on developing animated features based on vintage Termite Terrace, Hanna-Barbera and DC Comics properties.

TV skeins produced on Schwartz's watch were primarily for the Kids' WB! Saturday morning block, which has endured on broadcast TV stations despite the merger of the WB network and UPN last year into the CW. Warner Bros. Animation's active Kids' WB! slate includes "Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue," "The Batman" and "Legion of Super Heroes."

Insiders said Schwartz is well liked by Warner Bros. brass, but there were concerns that the division had not branched out much in recent years or had much success of late in fielding hits to its Time Warner sib Cartoon Network.

Warner Bros.' commitment to animation production remains solid, insiders said, pointing to the division's planned move next week from a satellite office in Sherman Oaks to a facility specially built for the toon wing on the Warner ranch lot, which formerly housed the WB weblet.

Schwartz said he felt the time was right to "try my hand at a full-time creative post" and the opportunities opened up for animation production through new technologies and platforms.

Before joining Warners, Schwartz spent a dozen years working in animation and kidvid development and production at Columbia TriStar and Sony Pictures. He established the Sony Pictures Family Entertainment unit and served as its president from 1999-2001.

Scooby Doo! Live On Stage
It could have gone in a totally different direction - a Rocky Horror-style spoof for grown up stoners. It has all the ingredients, after all - flower power clothes and sixties music, camp dialogue and a bunch of groovy teens searching for monsters in a psychedelic camper van. Instead, Scooby-Doo! Live On Stage embraces the cartoonns innocence in a show unashamedly aimed at the under tens. And, boy, did they turn out in droves for the opening night of this lengthy run.

As the kids scream Itts behind you!! itts like the pantomime season all over again, and although the show lacks the double entendre that panto throws in for the adults, IIm sure mums and dads will find plenty to enjoy in the sheer skill and spectacle with which Scooby Doo! is staged.

Visually, the Theme Star production completely fulfils its brief of bringing the cartoon series to life. Matthew Quinn, Liz Pearce, Kate Chamuris and Jamie Wilson all look and sound exactly like their animated counterparts, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Freddie, while Pierre Marc Diennet is especially convincing as Scoob - his suit is a masterpiece and youud never believe there was a man inside it.

Mind you, as my companion pointed out on the way home, there was more than one Scooby Dog, wasn't there - at least two? Well yes, there had to be, to handle some of the quick fire costume changes and rapid exits and entrances that completely capture the zany pace of a living cartoon.

Scooby-Doo is Scooberific!
“Scooby-Doo! Who’s Watching Who?” for PSP is a whirlwind mystery adventure in which Mystery Inc. (Velma, Fred, Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo) compete against Ghost Scene Investigators (GSI) in a race to solve mysteries on a reality show.

The members of GSI have serious attitudes and can’t imagine Scooby’s team ever beating their scientific methods in a mystery-solving marathon. The GSI team is looking to boost their reality show’s ratings by defeating Mystery Inc. as Scoob and his pals prove their worth by gathering clues and defeating ghostly enemies.

In this game, the player takes on the persona of Scooby-Doo. Scooby roams around the site of the mystery, both indoors and surrounding areas, searching for clues. The player chooses Scooby’s path, while collecting clues, Scooby Snacks and Dog Tags along the way.

As Scooby gathers clues, he takes them back to Velma in the Mystery Machine to analyze with special Ghost Detective Equipment. The devices analyze specific clues and assign each clue as a mark against a specific suspect. The clues don’t always make sense, but since Velma suggests that certain clues implicate certain suspects, you don’t have to fret, the answers are pretty much given to you.

The most exciting part of the game doesn’t occur as Scooby looks for clues. The real fun starts when he opens a door and begins a chase. For example, in one episode, Scooby and Shaggy are in a kitchen searching for food when a monster shows up. The daring dog must save his petrified pal from being scared stiff. Shaggy leaps into Scooby’s paws (a la the animated series) and they run through the kitchen dodging slippery spots, steaming dishwashers and ghastly ghosts.

Did I mention you even get to drive the Mystery Machine? As Mystery Inc. races to catch a haunted stagecoach that holds another clue, the player actually drives the Mystery Machine around a spooky graveyard. There are twists, turns and even an escapade through an underground cave.

Overall, I really enjoyed Scooby’s newest game. Though the clues were a little confusing, the investigation aspect was a lot of fun.

“Scooby-Doo! Who’s Watching Who?” is probably too advanced for kids 6 and under, but the 7 and up crowd should respond well to this clue-cracking quest. Girls and boys alike are sure to love this game – especially those die-hard Scooby fans like myself.

R’over r’ere!

Zoiks! the Mystery Machine is voted children's favourite car
Scooby-Doo's Mystery Machine has been voted the best screen motor of all time - ahead of the Batmobile, 007's gadget-laden Aston Martin and Del Boy's Reliant Robin. The vehicle - based on a 1968 Chevrolet Sportvan - made its TV debut in 1969.

Over the years the flower power cartoon cruiser has spawned copies around the world with fans painting their Chevrolet Sportvans blue and green.

The van came top of a poll of 3,000 children conducted by Toys "R" Us in conjunction with the launch of Disney Pixar's new film Cars. It revealed that Herbie, the No 53 Love Bug, takes second place as the most memorable fictional car.

The Beetle, which has a life of its own, has appeared in five movies.

Third place went to comic book superhero Batman's Batmobile whose original 1966 model began life as a Lincoln Futura concept car.

Family favourite Chitty Chitty Bang Bang flew in at fourth place.

A spokeswoman for Toys "R" Us said: "We know fictional cars are incredibly popular, because when any new film is launched, sales of related car merchandise go through the roof."

Cardellini keen for Scooby Doo 3
Though the Prinze-Gellarrs aren't answering calls, Scooby Doo star Linda Cardellini says sheell gladly plonk Velmaas wig back on for a third outing.

The Brokeback Mountainn star tells MTV that she "had the time of my life making those movies," she grinned. "Every six months or so, I hear a whisper or a murmur that there will be another [sequel]."

The latest is that most of the folks involved in the first two Scoobyy movies - including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr, Matthew Lillard and writer James Gunn - arennt coming back for another, so the whispers in the corridors of Warner have it that they might be continuing the series as a direct-to-video franchise. Scooby-Doo breaks cartoon record
Children's TV favourite Scooby-Doo has been awarded a Guinness World Record for notching up the most episodes of a cartoon comedy series.

The show's 350th episode, Scooby-Doo Halloween, is being screened on the Boomerang channel on Friday, beating a previous record held by The Simpsons.

The adventures of Scooby and his friends Shaggy, Velma, Fred and Daphne first aired in 1969.

The show was created by US animation company Hanna-Barbera Productions.

Seen in more than 160 countries, it was recently voted second in a list of cartoons that today's adults enjoyed as children.

The lovable Great Dane, whose real name is Scoobert, has incredibly remained seven years old over the 35 years of the show.

The Simpsons previously held the cartoon record with 335 episodes, followed by Tom and Jerry with 209, The Flintstones (166) and Disney's Mickey Mouse (120).

"It's a great honour to have taken Homer's crown," said Richard Kilgarriff of Boomerang TV.

Scooby-Doo will now be listed in the 2006 Guinness World Record book published at the end of next year.

A live-action remake of the classic Hanna Barbera cartoon featuring a computer generated version of the crime-fighting canine made $268m ((145m) at global box offices in 2002, despite poor reviews.

A sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, was released earlier this year.

Matthew Lillard Says No 'Scooby-Doo 3'
Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo) told SCI FI Wire that there is no hope for a third installment. "There will be no Scooby 3," Lillard said in an interview. Lillard blamed the film's disappointing box-office performance.

Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed made more than $80 million at the U.S. box office, but that fell far short of the original Scooby-Doo's $154 million haul.

"The second one didn't do as well as it was expected to do, and I completely hold that to Warner Brothers' fault," Lillard said. "I think Warner Brothers made a mistake releasing it at the time they did [March 2004]. I think the movie's much better than the first movie, and I honestly thought it was going to do ridiculously good box office. But we had a bad timeslot. We had 13 movies open up in two weeks after we opened up. I mean, it did well, but it didn't do great, and it needed to do great."

'Scooby-Doo 3' Gets Jetsons Scribes
Warner Bros. Pictures "Scooby-Doo" sequel is already on the fast track, and the studio is already moving forward on a third installment, hiring scribes Dan Forman and Paul Foley to write a script, tentatively titled "Scooby-Doo 3," reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The duo recently turned in a rewrite on Warners' "The Jetsons," another animated television property being conceived for the big screen. Sources say the studio was happy with the "Jetsons" draft and was therefore prompted to hire Forman and Foley to pen "Scooby 3."

The first "Scooby-Doo" film, directed by Raja Gosnell and released June 16 in the United States, was expected to launch a franchise if it performed at the boxoffice, which it did, opening at $54.1 million and going on to gross more than $153 million domestically.

A Scoop of Scooby
Let's hope Scooby-Doo the ice cream is better than Scooby-Doo, the much-maligned movie. Edy's has hitched its name to the cartoon Great Dane with two ice creams, Peanut Butter Bones and Cookie Dough Lite. Another summer movie-inspired flavor is on its way: Powerpuff Mint Chip. Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup can save the world before bedtime, but after how many bowls of ice cream? Look for the new flavors this summer for $5.59 a carton.
